Shimla, August 20, 2024 — Education Minister Rohit Thakur and Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh have strongly rebuffed accusations made by Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, describing them as baseless and aimed at seeking attention. The ministers clarified that maintenance of government properties, including ministers’ bungalows, is routine, pointing out that similar funds were allocated during Jai Ram Thakur’s tenure for his own bungalow’s upkeep.
The ministers called on BJP leaders to contribute positively to the state’s development rather than obstructing it. They alleged that BJP leaders have repeatedly hindered financial aid to Himachal Pradesh by misleading the central government about state borrowings made during their rule. The ministers criticized the BJP for playing a “cheap role” in halting a Rs 10,000 crore disaster relief claim for the state.
Thakur and Singh further highlighted that Rs 9200 crore of the state’s National Pension System (NPS) funds are stuck with the central government and urged the BJP to help retrieve this amount. They accused the previous BJP government of neglecting state employees by withholding benefits, including dearness allowance, while the current government has taken steps to address these issues.
The ministers also condemned the central government for imposing financial restrictions on Himachal Pradesh, resulting in significant losses for the state. They revealed a scam in the Himcare scheme under the previous BJP government, where Rs 1000 crore was allegedly misused, and vowed to bring those responsible to justice.
