Shimla, February 20, 2026: A “Mental Health and Menstrual Hygiene” awareness camp was successfully organised at Shimla Nursing College, Shurala, under the joint aegis of the Himachal Pradesh State Red Cross Branch and District Red Cross Society, Shimla. The initiative aimed to educate Youth Red Cross volunteers and nursing students about mental well-being, menstrual hygiene and the need to challenge social myths and misconceptions.

During the session, Ms. Meenakshi Mehta, Counselor at Deen Dayal Hospital, Shimla, delivered an insightful lecture highlighting early signs of stress, anxiety and emotional challenges, the importance of timely counselling, and practical ways to maintain mental wellness. She also emphasised stress management, positive thinking and adopting a healthy lifestyle.

Participants were further sensitised about menstrual hygiene practices, the use of safe sanitary products and the need to break stigma associated with menstruation. Junior/Youth Red Cross Coordinator Virender Singh Bisht encouraged volunteers to actively promote humanitarian awareness in their institutions and communities.

Around 60 students, teachers and Youth Red Cross volunteers participated enthusiastically, and the programme concluded with a formal vote of thanks.
