Meeting Held to Discuss Relocation of Shimla’s Markets

Deputy Commissioner directs officials to identify suitable land within a week
Shimla, October 6, 2025 — A high-level meeting was convened under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, to deliberate on the relocation of the Shimla Vegetable Market, Timber Market, and other commercial hubs.
Officials from various departments and concerned agencies participated in the meeting, where detailed discussions were held on possible relocation sites. The move aims to ease traffic congestion, improve public amenities, and facilitate smoother commercial operations while addressing the city’s growing infrastructural demands.
The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to conduct a comprehensive survey covering all essential aspects and to prepare a practical, phased proposal for planned relocation. He emphasized that shifting certain commercial activities outside the city has become essential to reduce urban crowding and enhance civic facilities.
Departments have been directed to finalize suitable land and submit a detailed proposal within a week for onward submission to the State Government.
The meeting was attended by Additional District Magistrate (Law & Order) Pankaj Sharma, ASP Ratna Negi, SDM (Rural) Manjeet Sharma, District Revenue Officer Sanjeet Sharma, and officials from Shimla Municipal Corporation, Agricultural Marketing Board, and other related departments.
