Shimla, 4 February: District Magistrate Anupam Kashyap has issued emergency orders under the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, 2023, mandating the identification and verification of migrant workers at local police stations before employment. Employers, contractors, and traders in Shimla district are prohibited from hiring migrant workers for informal jobs or contract labor unless they register their details along with a passport-sized photograph at the relevant police station.
As per the order, any individual visiting Shimla district must inform the local Station House Officer (SHO) before engaging in self-employment, informal trade, services, or job-seeking activities. Violators, including both migrant workers and their employers, will face punitive action under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
These orders take immediate effect and will remain in force for the next two months.
