Mahakumbh Pilgrims from Himachal Meet Tragic Accident in UP; Two Dead, Several Injured
1 min readKangra,Feb 08 – A tragic road accident occurred near Chilli village in Rath Kotwali area on Bundelkhand Expressway, Uttar Pradesh, involving pilgrims returning from the Mahakumbh. A Tempo Traveller carrying devotees from Chadiyar, Kangra, crashed into a stationary truck, resulting in two fatalities and over ten serious injuries.
The deceased have been identified as 60-year-old Nirmala (Guddi) and 50-year-old Surendra Rana. The injured include Sudarshan (62), Vipul Sharma (45), Jeewna Devi (50), Sudesh Kumari (60), Sunil Kumari (65), Kusum Lata (56), Chandi (60), Anjubala (50), Anjana Kumari (43), Raksha Devi (55), Sheela Rani (68), and Tambo Devi (65).
The injured were rushed to the Community Health Center in Rath, with two critically wounded individuals transferred to Medical College Orai for advanced treatment. Initial reports suggest that the accident occurred around 7:30 AM due to the driver falling asleep at the wheel, leading to the Tempo Traveller losing control and crashing into the parked truck.
Local police and administration promptly arrived at the scene, initiating rescue operations. Authorities confirmed that preliminary investigations indicate negligence on the driver’s part. The police have commenced legal proceedings, and the administration has assured all possible assistance to the victims and their families.
