2 min read

The prices of tomatoes and peas, which had been soaring for nearly a month in the capital, have finally reduced. After the arrival of tomatoes from Maharashtra and Bangalore in markets including Delhi, there has been a decline in their prices. In Shimla, the prices of tomatoes have dropped by as much as 60 rupees per kilogram in just one day. On Tuesday, tomatoes were sold at 200 rupees per kilogram, and on Wednesday, they were sold at prices ranging from 140 to 160 rupees per kilogram.

According to vegetable vendors in the city, the arrival of tomatoes from other states has led to a reduction in prices due to increased supply. As a result, farmers from Shimla and neighboring districts are now bringing their produce to local markets, further contributing to the price decrease. In the Dhalli vegetable market, tomatoes were sold at wholesale prices ranging from 80 to 130 rupees per kilogram. Similarly, in the Lower Bazaar vegetable market of the capital, peas were sold at prices ranging from 40 to 60 rupees per kilogram in packets. Previously, peas were being sold at prices between 100 and 120 rupees per kilogram.

Additionally, the prices of other vegetables like capsicum, brinjals, and okra have also decreased by 10 to 20 rupees. Vegetable sellers mentioned that local produce is abundantly available in the markets, leading to the decline in prices. Tomato prices have witnessed a decrease due to the influx of local produce in the markets. Instead of taking their crops to markets in other states, farmers are now selling their produce in local markets.
