Librarian Day Celebrated at Nauni
1 min readIn honour of the 132nd birth anniversary of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, the SatyaNand Stokes Library at Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry celebrated Librarians’ Day at the university.
Dr. C.L. Thakur, Dean of the College of Forestry was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The event commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony and Saraswati Vandana, followed by floral tributes to Dr. S.R. Ranganathan, who is widely recognized as the father of Library Science in India and has made significant contributions in this field that are acknowledged worldwide.
In his welcome address, University Librarian Dr. H.P. Sankhyan welcomed the guests and the first batch of the newly launched Bachelor of Library and Information Science (B.Lib & I.Sc.) course. He highlighted Dr. Ranganathan’s invaluable contributions to the field of Library Sciences, emphasizing their relevance in today’s educational landscape.
Students from the inaugural B.Lib & I.Sc. batch actively participated by creating posters and delivering speeches and poems dedicated to the occasion. Dr. Thakur emphasized the importance of libraries as temples of learning within academic institutions and discussed the evolving role of libraries in the digital age.
The celebration was attended by all statutory officers, assistant librarians, staff, and students, making it a memorable event that reinforced the significance of libraries in nurturing knowledge and fostering a culture of learning.
