Legal Services Week held to celebrate Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav
2 min readSolan, Nov 10 – To celebrate the Legal Services Week, which is held from November 8 to 14, a Legal aid camp was organised at Sultanpur and Oachghat by School of Law, Shoolini University.
It was attended by para legal volunteers of School of Law, Dr. Nandan Sharma, Head, School of Law, faculty members, Pradhan, Up-Pradhan, Ward members and advocates.
At Sultanpur Gram Panchayat, Advocate Devi Chand shared information regarding women rights.
Two law students namely Mansha and Anshula gave information about laws for domestic violence and crime against women.
At the Oachghat Gram Panchayat, the camp was presided over by Mr Kapil Sharma, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum- secretary, District Legal Service Authority, Solan and Advocate Atul Sharma. Mr Kapil Sharma gave information regarding availing of free legal aid.
Advocate Atul Sharma encouraged the villagers for using Alternate Dispute Redressal Mechanism to resolve dispute outside the Court.
Two student speakers from School of Law namely Kanika and Dalia spoke about female foeticide and infanticide and elaborated various government schemes available at Panchayat level.
School of Law, Shoolini University also celebrated National Legal Services Day, in collaboration with District Legal service Authority, Solan and National Commission for Women. The Legal awareness programme for women was organised at Gram Panchayat Nauni.
It was presided over by Mr Kapil Sharma and attended among others by Mr. Madan Himachali, Pradhan, Nauni Gram Panchayat, and women representative from 9 villages and Dr. Nandan Sharma, Head, School of Law, Shoolini university and faculty members.
Various resource persons were invited to share their thoughts on this occasion. Advocate Doshi Negi provided information about right to health to women and explained rights of women before and after arrest. Advocate Shweta Sharma discussed about crimes against women. Dr. Pushpanjali Sood, Associate Professor, Shoolini University highlighted the role of women in the Indian economy and Ms. Swati Soni, Assistant professor, Shoolini University highlighted the contribution of the women of Himachal in the progress of the country and the state.
The week was inaugurated by the Chancellor Shoolini University, Prof P K Khosla. He shared his thoughts with law students and para legal volunteers and emphasised on the role of students and free legal aid concept embedded in the Indian Constitution and the Legal Services Authority Act.
