Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur Slams Govt Over Rising Drug Menace in Himachal

1 min read

Shimla, February 27 – Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has strongly criticized the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government for its failure to curb the rampant drug trade in the state. He highlighted that in the past week alone, three youth have died due to drug overdoses, while the drug mafia continues to operate unchecked.

Thakur expressed deep concern over the worsening situation, stating that the drug crisis has spiraled out of control under the current government. He accused the administration of providing political protection to drug mafias, leading to lack of police action against the main culprits. He further alleged that whenever the police attempt a crackdown, political interference obstructs their efforts.

BJP’s Stand Against Drug Menace
Jairam Thakur assured that the BJP is committed to eradicating drugs from Himachal and has even passed a resolution in its state executive meeting in Una on July 19, 2024, to intensify the fight against narcotics. He urged the government to take strict action against drug syndicates and their political patrons, emphasizing that those involved, whether dealers or their protectors, must be jailed.

Congress Leaders Target PM Modi for Popularity
In a separate attack, Thakur accused Congress leaders of making baseless statements against Prime Minister Narendra Modi to gain attention within their party. He asserted that Modi’s leadership has elevated India’s global standing, and Congress leaders should stop making reckless remarks just to stay in the limelight.
