Shimla: BJP spokesperson Sandeepni Bhardwaj accused the Congress government of failing to maintain law and order in Himachal Pradesh, citing alarming statistics on crimes against women. Bhardwaj highlighted that 634 rape cases, 900 molestation cases, and over 300 cases of cruelty against women have been reported in the past two years. From January to November 2024 alone, 305 rape cases, 458 molestation cases, and 160 cases of cruelty against women were registered.
He also referred to a recent double murder in Una, where a father and son were shot dead in broad daylight, and a botched surgery at a private hospital in Una leading to a woman’s death, both creating public outrage. Additionally, a gruesome murder case from Baluganj, involving a severed head and torso found in April 2023, has now been reclassified as a homicide following court intervention.
Bhardwaj listed district-wise data on rape and cruelty cases, emphasizing increasing crime rates across regions, including Shimla, Kangra, and Mandi. He accused the Congress government of ignoring the state’s traditionally peaceful nature and failing to ensure women’s safety.
