Women in Kullu are emerging as a strong symbol of self-reliance and empowerment through the Shivshakti Self Help Group working under the Bhuntar development block. The group, comprising 13 women from Bhalan-1 Panchayat, has successfully linked traditional knowledge with livelihood opportunities by producing local pickles, chutneys, food items, and traditional Kullu Patti shawls.
With support from the National Rural Livelihood Mission and the Himachal Pradesh government, the group received a modern food van worth around ₹8 lakh, enabling them to serve traditional and affordable food at major tourist destinations. This initiative has strengthened their income, boosted confidence, and promoted Kullu’s cultural heritage among tourists.
Under the leadership of Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, such initiatives are helping rural women achieve financial independence while preserving local traditions.
