68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference Begins in Barbados; Kuldeep Pathania Joins Indian Delegation Alongside Om Birla
Bridgetown, October 9 — The 68th Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference commenced today in Bridgetown, the capital of Barbados. Organized jointly by the Executive Committee of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) and the Parliament of Barbados, the conference is hosting delegates from 56 member nations.
Representing India, CPA India Region Chairperson and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla is accompanied by Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania. Several presiding and deputy presiding officers from various Indian state legislatures are also attending.
The conference, scheduled from October 8 to 13, officially began after completing parliamentary formalities. Following the inauguration, Indian delegates gathered for a group photograph at the Parliament entrance.
Pathania highlighted that the Commonwealth is a voluntary association of 56 independent nations, rooted in shared values of democracy, peace, and development. He emphasized that the Commonwealth includes both advanced economies and small island nations across Africa, Asia, Europe, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.
Kuldeep Singh Pathania is set to deliver his first address in the Barbados Parliament tomorrow on the theme “Strengthening Our Institutions to Support Democracy.” Himachal Pradesh Deputy Speaker Vinay Kumar and Assembly Secretary Yash Pal Sharma are also part of the Indian delegation.
