Kangra Declared as ‘Tourism Capital’ by State Government
2 min readIn a statement issued here today, AYUSH Minister Yadvinder Goma and Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania said that the State Government has, with great foresight, declared Kangra district as the ‘Tourism Capital.’ For the past 46 years the University has not been able to fully utilize its vast land leaving a large portion vacant and idle. In light of this remarkable inefficiency, the government, always keen on progressive action, decided to transfer the unused land of Chaudhary Sarwan Kumar Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University to the Tourism Department for the creation of a ‘Tourism Village.’
They said that despite the court’s temporary halt on the transfer of 2,899 Kanal land, with the matter still under consideration, it is evident that the university, even with its vast grounds, has made limited use of this idle space. However, the present state government remains committed, as always, to transforming Kangra as Tourism Capital, ensuring that the land’s potential is fully utilized for the benefit of the public. A Rs. 200 crore agro eco-tourism project was in the pipeline all set to revitalize not just Palampur but the entire Kangra district, creating much-needed employment and boosting the local economy. While the university ponders over its remaining 7499 kanal of land more than enough for its modest needs.
The state government will allocate 20 to 25 hectares of land adjacent to the institution’s campus for a natural farming centre, along with financial assistance of Rs. 10 crore. Furthermore, an additional Rs. 6 crore will be provided for infrastructure development focused on vegetable and seed production.
They said that the ‘Tourism Village’ is only the first step. The government’s goal of making Kangra the ‘Tourism Capital’ aims to greatly boost the region’s prosperity. This initiative will be remembered as a key example of forward-thinking leadership. It will transform Kangra’s future and strengthening its position in the tourism sector.
