The restoration work of the Kalka-Shimla railway track, part of the World Heritage site, has now begun from Kalka to Solan after being repaired from Kalka to Koti. Several sections of the track between Koti and Solan were damaged due to heavy rains. The claim is that the work will be completed by September 12th, enabling the resumption of train services from Kalka to Solan starting from September 15th. Currently, all train services from Kalka to Shimla have been canceled until September 15th. After repairing the track up to Koti, train services resumed for a few days, but following heavy rainfall in August, the track between Solan and Shimla was affected.
The track hung in the air near the Summerhill railway station. Since then, train services on the track have been completely suspended.
The ongoing track repair work is as follows:
1. A team of senior railway board officials has inspected the damage caused by the rains. In the second phase, work is being carried out at Koti Tunnel, Sanwara, Anji, and Kandaghat, as well as Summerhill. The board has instructed contractors to work swiftly in the affected areas.
2. In the first phase, the track has been repaired from Kalka to Koti. Subsequently, work is underway from Koti to Solan. It is expected that the track from Kalka to Solan will be restored by September 12th. All trains have been canceled until September 15th. Only two special trains are currently operating from Kalka to Koti. People will soon receive relief. – Navin Kumar, Senior DCM, Rail Division, Ambala.
