JUIT Hosts Impactful Workshop on Organ Donation Awareness
2 min readOn August 28, 2024, the State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (SOTTO) Himachal Pradesh, in collaboration with the Rotary Club Shimla Hill Queens, organized a highly impactful “Workshop on Awareness of Organ Donation” at Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT). The workshop was led by Prof. Puneet Mahajan, Nodal Officer of SOTTO Himachal Pradesh and a distinguished faculty member from the Department of Surgery at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC) Shimla.
The event, which took place at 3:00 PM in the university auditorium, was co-organized by DRISHTI, SIGHT IEEE JUIT SB, SIGHT IEEE Delhi Section, and the Environment, Ecology, and Health Club, JYC. Prof. Mahajan skillfully explained the critical aspects of organ donation in a simple and relatable manner, emphasizing that organ donation is not merely an act of generosity, but a legacy that continues to save and enhance lives. His words inspired students and faculty alike, highlighting the profound impact that choosing to donate organs can have on society.
The workshop was attended by key figures from JUIT, including Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajendra Kumar Sharma, Dean (Academics & Research) Prof. Ashok Kumar Gupta, Registrar Maj Gen Rakesh Bassi (Retd.), Registrar and Dean of Students (Designate) Brig. Raj Kumar Sharma SM (Retd.), as well as heads of departments, media publicity in charge, other faculty members, and a large number of students. The event was also graced by the presence of prominent members from the Rotary Club Shimla Hill Queens, including President Ms. Mala Singh, Assistant Governor Zone-1 Ms. Ruchira Tangri, Vice President Ms. Aruna Sharma, Club Secretary Ms. Taruna Kaushal, Public Image Chair Ms. Geeta Kapoor, Director Ms. Manjusha Pathania, Member Ms. Sunita Jain, and Executive Secretary Ms. Gurpreet Sondh. Mr. Naresh from SOTTO also attended the event.
Special thanks were extended to Prof. Shruti Jain, Prof. Hemant Sood, Dr. Nancy, Dr. Poonam Sharma, Dr. Ashok Nadda, and Dr. Rishi Rana for their exceptional efforts and dedication in making the workshop a resounding success. The event not only educated but also inspired participants to consider the life-saving act of organ donation, ensuring that the message will resonate long after the workshop’s conclusion.
