JNV Theog Entrance Exam: DC Urges Maximum Student Participation

Shimla, August 22, 2024: Deputy Commissioner Shimla, Anupam Kashyap, has called for maximum participation of students in the entrance exam for Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Theog. He emphasized the need to inspire all students currently studying in the 5th grade across Shimla district to apply for the entrance exam for the academic session 2025-26.

During a meeting held today, the Deputy Commissioner stressed that due to a lack of awareness, many eligible students miss the opportunity to apply for this prestigious exam. To address this issue, he directed the Deputy Director of Elementary Education to ensure that all government and private schools in the district actively encourage their students to register for the JNV entrance exam.

The entrance exam for the 6th grade at JNV Theog is scheduled for April 12, 2025, and the last date for online applications is September 16, 2024. The DC highlighted the importance of this opportunity, noting that students at JNVs receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for future challenges from a young age.

During the meeting, Deputy Director of Elementary Education Mohinder shared that there are approximately 1,500 primary schools in the district where teachers and students can be made aware of the entrance exam. The DC instructed that all such schools be promptly informed to ensure maximum student participation.

Sangeeta Shaunik, Principal of JNV Theog, informed that 80 students will be selected for the 6th grade through the entrance exam, with 268 applications received so far. The goal is to receive at least 6,000 applications this year, compared to 2,955 applications in the previous academic session.

She also mentioned that students at JNV Theog receive free textbooks worth approximately ₹8,000, and are mentored by scientists from leading institutions. The school reserves 75% of its seats for rural students, with one-third of the seats reserved for girls.

Eligible students currently studying in the 5th grade and who are permanent residents of Shimla district can apply online. Applicants must have studied in a recognized school within the district. The application must accurately reflect the candidate’s category (GEN/OBC/SC/ST), and only those listed in the central OBC list are eligible. The selection of rural/urban areas must correspond to the school the student attended in grades 3, 4, and 5. Clear photos and signatures of the candidate and parents are required. The candidate’s date of birth must be between May 1, 2013, and July 31, 2015. Candidates who have previously taken the exam are not eligible to reapply.
