Solan, March 1 – Jaypee University of Information Technology (JUIT) marked the grand celebration of National Science Day (NSD) through its Third National Science Day Symposium (NSDS-2024). The event, hosted on-site, embraced a diverse range of activities, showcasing the university’s commitment to scientific exploration and education.

This year, NSD took a vibrant form at JUIT, featuring an array of offline activities. A highlight was the engaging poster and model presentation competition, accompanied by a spirited debate and declamation session. Adding an educational touch, a one-day workshop was organized for school and college teachers, focusing on the latest advancements in Computer Science, Biotechnology, and Bioinformatics.

NSDS-2024, skillfully convened by Prof Tiratha Raj Singh and Dr Ragini Raj Singh, unfolded under the inauguration led by the Honourable Vice-Chancellor of JUIT, Prof RK Sharma, and Dean (Academics and Research), Prof AK Gupta.

Expert judges, drawn from various departments of JUIT, including Prof Vineet Sharma, Prof Jata Shankar, and others, meticulously evaluated the posters, models, debates, and declamations.

Two distinguished scholars, Prof P B Barman and Prof Anupriya Kaur, delivered insightful lectures. The event’s successful execution owed much to the coordinated efforts of various committees, led by Dr Hemant Sood, Dr Rahul Shrivastava, Dr Nishant Jain, and Dr Shikha Mittal. The student committee, steered by Mr Rahul Singh, a PhD scholar from the PMS department, played a pivotal role.

The financial support extended by HIMCOSTE (Government of HP), JUIT, and the catalyzation by NCSTC, DST (Government of India), contributed to the grandeur of NSDS-2024. Technical sponsorship from the Centre for Healthcare Technologies and Informatics (CEHTI), JUIT, added a robust dimension to the event.

Further amplifying the impact, JUIT orchestrated a series of activities over the last three weeks. Quiz competitions held at St Lukes School, Solan, Government Sr Secondary School, Lalpani, Shimla, and Chapslee School, Shimla, added an educational fervor to the celebrations.

The culmination of the festivities witnessed the felicitation of winners across schools and colleges, recognizing excellence in model presentations, poster competitions, debates, and declamations. Notable winners hailed from St Lukes School, Solan; Loreto Convent School, Shimla; DAV School, Kandaghat; and other esteemed institutions.

In addition to the on-campus celebrations, JUIT extended its outreach with workshops at Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV) Longwood, Shimla, and Khalsa College, Patiala. The university also ventured into career counseling sessions, combining awareness about National Science Day with valuable insights for students at Government College Sunni.
