Jairam Thakur Visits Flood-Hit Mandi, Urges Speedy Relief for Victims

1 min read

Mandi, August 24 – Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, visited disaster-hit areas of Mandi, including his constituency Bali Chowki, where heavy rains, landslides, and cloudbursts have caused widespread devastation. Dozens of houses have been washed away in the past two days.

Thakur said the entire state is reeling under natural calamities with severe damage reported in Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti, Kullu, Mandi, Chamba, Bilaspur, and Una. He personally distributed relief materials including blankets, mattresses, tarpaulins, ration, utensils, and cash assistance to 48 affected families.

Expressing concern over the rising scale of disasters, Thakur emphasized that relief must reach victims “as early and as much as possible,” since delayed assistance loses its relevance for those who have lost their homes and land. He urged the government to act swiftly and extend maximum support.

He also pointed out that the calamity, once confined to Mandi, has now spread across the state, even causing landslides near the CM’s residence in Shimla. Stressing the need for new studies and policies to mitigate disaster impact, he assured that issues of affected families would be strongly raised in the Assembly to ensure adequate aid.
