“A single tragedy took 18 lives — every eye moist at the sight,” says Leader of Opposition

Bilaspur, October 2025 — Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur visited the Barthin Ballu bus accident site to review ongoing relief and rescue operations. He met the officials involved, interacted with the victims’ families at Barthin Civil Hospital, and later attended the last rites of those who lost their lives in the accident.

Expressing deep grief, Thakur said, “This heart-wrenching tragedy has shaken the entire state. Families have been wiped out — in some homes, four members died together. Words fail to describe the pain.”

He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and BJP National President JP Nadda have been closely monitoring the situation, while BJP MLAs Jit Ram Katwal and Trilok Jamwal rushed to the spot immediately. “The BJP stands firmly with the affected families,” he added.

Thakur questioned the Public Works Department’s negligence, saying that locals had repeatedly warned the department about the danger at the site. “Why was no action taken despite multiple complaints? If timely repairs had been done, 18 precious lives could have been saved,” he said, demanding a thorough inquiry into departmental inaction.

He urged the state government to identify and repair all vulnerable spots across Himachal to prevent future tragedies. “Such incidents remind us that proactive safety measures are the need of the hour,” he said, calling for swift compensation and support to the bereaved families.
