Jairam Thakur Slams Sukhu Govt Over ₹97 Lakh NGO Favoritism, Calls for Probe

Shimla, February 26: Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has accused the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government of rampant corruption, questioning why an NGO—previously recommended for action—was instead favored with ₹97 lakh in projects.
Thakur claimed that senior officials ignored recommendations to cancel these NGO projects, raising suspicions of political favoritism and misuse of central funds. He alleged that while the government burdens citizens with new taxes citing financial crisis, it is favoring certain organizations by violating norms.
The controversy arose after a state grant committee initially rejected three NGO projects from Kangra, recommending cancellation of their registrations. However, the Social Justice Department’s secretary later approved the projects and sent them for central funding, disregarding prior recommendations.
Thakur also pointed to past financial irregularities, including:
- ₹2.5 crore misused at IGMC’s defunct trauma center
- ₹8.75 crore from PM Gati Shakti scheme diverted to a private company’s security wall
- Repeated misallocation of central government funds, delaying development projects
He demanded a clarification from CM Sukhu and strict action against those responsible for fund mismanagement and favoritism.
