Shimla, 27 November 2024: Leader of the Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Congress-led Sukhu government during a press conference in Shimla. Thakur accused the government of widespread misgovernance, broken promises, and pushing Himachal Pradesh into a financial and administrative crisis during its two-year tenure.
Thakur alleged that the Sukhu government has transformed the state into a “saleable asset” by mortgaging key properties like Himachal Bhawan to private companies in exchange for loans. He highlighted that despite being offered a no-interest deal, the government failed to protect public assets, displaying gross incompetence.
He criticized the administration for failing to deliver on its pre-election promises, such as providing 300 units of free electricity and ₹1,500 monthly assistance to women. “Instead of empowering the people, this government has scrapped over 1.5 lakh job positions and misled the youth with false guarantees,” Thakur said.
The former Chief Minister also accused the government of fostering corruption by supporting tainted officials and overspending on legal battles, including ₹3 crore for a single court appearance. Additionally, Thakur pointed out the alleged mismanagement in the tourism sector, with 18 government-run hotels being shut down, further damaging the state’s economy.
Thakur further ridiculed Chief Minister Sukhu for celebrating “failure” and pointed out the internal discord within the government. “This government is a tale of contradictions—its ministers are powerless, and its leadership is authoritarian,” he remarked.
The opposition leader concluded by highlighting the financial crisis, stating that the state’s debt has crossed ₹90,000 crore, and accused the government of prioritizing personal agendas over public welfare. “This is a government of broken promises, arrogance, and chaos,” he asserted.
