Shimla, October 10, 2025 — Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur criticized the state government for allegedly using disaster management as an excuse to postpone the upcoming Panchayat elections. Thakur said the government, including the Chief Minister, ministers, Chief Secretary, and Deputy Commissioners, appears confused and is avoiding public accountability. He alleged that the letters written by Deputy Commissioners were part of a pre-planned move by the government to delay elections, exposing its inefficiency in disaster relief and rehabilitation efforts.
Thakur further stated that despite receiving ample financial aid from the Centre, the government failed to rebuild damaged infrastructure or resettle disaster-affected families. Accusing the Sukhu government of misleading people with false promises, Thakur said the administration has lost public trust and is running away from democratic responsibilities.
