Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has strongly criticized the Himachal Pradesh government for legalizing lottery sales, calling it a regressive and harmful move. He said the decision, taken during the recent four-day cabinet meeting, would push many families into financial ruin—just as it did in the past.
Thakur reminded that lottery had earlier been banned because it led to homes being auctioned and even suicides. He accused the present government of exploiting people’s vulnerabilities in the name of ‘Vyavastha Parivartan’ (systemic change).
He further stated that the government is on a dangerous path—promoting liquor over education, legalizing hemp cultivation, and now targeting people’s savings through lottery. The BJP leader said this reflects a lack of moral responsibility and called it a betrayal of public trust.
