Shimla, Feb 25 : Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, has strongly criticized the government’s decision to increase taxi fares by 50%, calling it an anti-people move. He warned that the government is now planning to hike bus fares, further burdening common citizens. According to reports, HRTC’s board of directors has proposed doubling the minimum bus fare from ₹5 to ₹10 and increasing per-kilometer charges by 15%. The proposal will soon be sent for government approval.
Thakur accused the Sukhu government of repeatedly making decisions that harm the people of Himachal Pradesh. He pointed out that after raising diesel prices, the government has increased electricity and water tariffs, making life more difficult for residents. The planned bus fare hike would put an additional financial burden on every household. He urged the government to roll back the taxi fare hike and abandon the idea of increasing bus fares, calling for a focus on welfare rather than causing distress to the public.
