Jairam Thakur Raises Concerns Over State Finances

Kangra, Feb 08, 2026

Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur on February 8 launched a sharp attack on the Congress-led state government during his Kangra tour. Addressing BJP meetings in Nagrota Bagwan and Dehra, he termed Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu’s slogan of “system change” as hollow and accused the government of pushing the state towards financial distress.

Thakur alleged that the Sukhu government lacked a clear development roadmap and was attempting to shift the blame for its administrative failures onto the Centre. He warned that the government was preparing to burden the common people with higher taxes to compensate for financial mismanagement, while cabinet-rank facilities were being extended to close associates.

He questioned whether the Chief Minister was aware of the state’s financial condition while making election guarantees, saying that repeated claims of having a “plan” now stood exposed. According to Thakur, raising concerns over the budget even before its presentation reflected the government’s lack of preparedness.

During interactions with party workers and former employees’ cell programmes, Thakur described the present policies as anti-employee and anti-state, claiming widespread dissatisfaction among government employees. He called upon BJP workers to stay united and actively highlight what he termed as the government’s anti-people policies.

Several senior BJP leaders and local office-bearers were present during the meetings.
