Shimla, March 10: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur on Monday criticized the state government over the implementation of the CBSE curriculum in several Himachal schools, alleging that students have not received textbooks even a month after classes began.
In a statement issued from Shimla, Thakur said the government had announced the conversion of several schools to the CBSE board nearly two years ago, yet preparations remain incomplete. He claimed students are currently studying without CBSE books and are instead relying on Himachal Pradesh Board textbooks, even as their formative assessments are scheduled by the end of March.
Thakur also questioned the lack of clarity regarding teachers and infrastructure in these schools, stating that teacher transfers have not taken place and many schools still have staff who were earlier teaching under the state board. He urged the government to ensure proper arrangements, including books and trained teachers, if CBSE curriculum is to be implemented effectively.
Meanwhile, Thakur attended the swearing-in ceremony of Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan, Shimla, and extended his congratulations, expressing hope that the Governor would contribute to the state’s development and public welfare.
