Jairam Thakur Hits Out at Govt Over Aaya–Helper Hiring ‘Scam’

Shimla Nov 17: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur has levelled serious allegations against the state government, accusing it of turning the recruitment of Aaya and Helpers in 6,202 pre-primary schools into a hub of corruption and nepotism.
In his statement from Shimla, Thakur said the government is trying to exploit the centrally funded scheme—under which 90% funding comes from the Centre and 10% from the State—by filling posts through outsourced agencies without any clear rules or transparent criteria. He alleged that the government intends to influence upcoming panchayat elections by giving jobs to favoured individuals.
Thakur reiterated that ministers had instructed their close associates to open outsourcing agencies, enabling large-scale manipulation, bribery, and irregular recruitments. He added that similar allegations surfaced during earlier NTT recruitments, which were later scrapped.
Calling the process “lawless, directionless, and driven by political motive,” Thakur said the BJP would not allow the government to misuse a Centre-backed scheme for political gain or deny deserving youth their rightful opportunities.
