Jairam Thakur Demands Relief for Damaged Houses in Mandi

Mandi, September 15 – Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur visited the disaster-affected Seraj constituency in Mandi district, meeting victims and distributing relief material and financial aid provided by donors from within and outside the state.
He emphasized that many houses, though not officially declared “fully damaged,” are unfit for habitation and must also be included in compensation provisions. Thakur urged the government to ensure that the relief announced by the Prime Minister reaches victims without delay.
Thakur expressed gratitude to Union Minister of State for Road Transport & Highways Ajay Tamta for immediately providing budgetary support for road restoration. He highlighted the devastation caused by cloudbursts and floods in Beas river tributaries at Anjani Mahadev, Manalsu, and Baragram, which severely damaged stretches of the Kiratpur–Manali National Highway.
He noted that while NHAI has already sanctioned ₹40 crore for urgent repairs and ₹201 crore for further restoration, permanent safety measures worth about ₹4,000 crore, including tunnels, bridges, and slope protection, are being planned to minimize future damage.
Thakur said the disaster has destroyed years of hard-earned assets, but assured people that “we are resilient, we will fight and rise again,” pledging that BJP stands shoulder to shoulder with every affected family.
