Shimla, 28 January 2025: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur accused Congress of consistently disrespecting Sanatan Dharma, calling it a part of their legacy and attitude. Thakur stated that Congress leaders, from grassroots workers to the national president, never miss an opportunity to insult Sanatan traditions. He criticized Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s recent statements, describing them as evidence of frustration over the party’s rejection by the public.
Thakur emphasized the global recognition of India’s development under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing landmark projects like the Chenab Bridge and rapid infrastructure growth. He contrasted this progress with Congress’ negative narrative, questioning their ability to see the country’s advancement.
Highlighting the ongoing Maha Kumbh, Thakur pointed out its significant contribution to the economy, with over 15 crore people having participated so far. He stated that religious tourism not only boosts local economies but also generates employment and revenue. He estimated that 40-45 crore people are expected to attend the Kumbh, driving economic activities through transport, hospitality, and associated sectors.
Thakur urged Congress to acknowledge the economic and cultural importance of religious events like the Kumbh and change their perspective toward Sanatan Dharma. He called on the party to respect the nation’s traditions rather than criticizing them baselessly.
