Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur on February 9 launched a strong attack on the Congress-led state government, accusing it of anti-people and anti-employee policies. Addressing programmes in Kangra, Dharamshala, and Shahpur, Thakur raised concerns over healthcare, education, and financial management.
Criticising the hike in diagnostic test rates in government hospitals, Thakur said the state government was failing to contribute even its 10 percent share under the Centre-sponsored Free Diagnostic Initiative Scheme, thereby putting an additional burden on patients. He alleged that while free health schemes like Himcare were discontinued, government expenditure on advisors, board appointments, and legal matters continued unchecked. Thakur accused Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of shifting the burden of governance failures onto common citizens, especially the sick and needy.
Earlier, Thakur inaugurated the Inter-Zonal Kabaddi Tournament organised by the Central University of Himachal Pradesh in Dharamshala, where he honoured Himachal’s Kabaddi World Cup champion players. He alleged that the construction of the university’s permanent campus was stalled due to the state government’s failure to deposit ₹32 crore towards FAR, despite completion of formalities.
Later, addressing a BJP organisational programme in Shahpur Mandal, Thakur called upon party workers to remain united and expose what he termed as the government’s failures at the grassroots level. He also extended birthday greetings to Kangra MP Rajeev Bhardwaj during the event.
