Jairam Thakur Alleges Financial Breakdown, Governance Failure Under Sukhu Govt

2 min read

Mandi, April 8: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur mounted a strong political offensive against the Sukhu-led Congress government, alleging that Himachal Pradesh is being pushed towards a “Pakistan-like model” marked by financial instability and administrative breakdown.

Addressing the media after the BJP state executive meeting in Mandi, Thakur said the delay in salaries of employees, officers, and even elected representatives reflects a deepening economic crisis. Calling the situation unprecedented, he accused the government of failing on financial management and burdening the state with mounting debt.

He also raised serious allegations of corruption, claiming that the current regime has seen controversies involving both leaders and officials at levels never witnessed before in the state’s history. He asserted that the BJP will take these issues to the public and intensify its campaign against what he termed “anti-people policies.”

Referring to the Chester Hill case, Thakur alleged violations of land laws and possible benami transactions, accusing the government of attempting to suppress the matter despite prior knowledge.

Taking a dig at the administration, he pointed out contradictions within the government, saying that while orders are issued against re-employment and extensions, approvals are granted simultaneously—highlighting a lack of coordination and clarity.

Targeting Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu personally, Thakur accused him of making misleading claims and failing to present a clear economic roadmap. He also questioned the rising debt, stating that the current government has added significantly to the state’s financial burden in a short span.

He further criticized what he described as contradictory statements within the government on key development goals, saying it reflects internal confusion and weakening public trust.

Several senior BJP leaders were present during the press conference.
