Solan/Nalagarh: Opposition leader Jairam Thakur, in a press conference held in Nalagarh, stated that law and order in the state is in shambles and anarchy is at its peak. He accused the Congress of protecting crime, pointing out that the Congress candidate from Nalagarh has around 132 cases pending against him.
Thakur highlighted an incident where gunfire occurred in the court premises during daylight, involving Congress leaders, a former MLA, and his son. He mentioned that the recent Lok Sabha and Assembly by-elections could have been held simultaneously if the resignations of the three independent MLAs were accepted earlier. He alleged that the Congress government pressured the Speaker to delay the acceptance of the resignations, resulting in an additional electoral burden on the people of Himachal Pradesh.
Jairam Thakur addressed two public gatherings in Nalagarh, where he criticized the Chief Minister for treating independent MLAs as helpless and forcibly seeking their support for every task. Despite their occasional support, it was unreasonable to expect them to back the government on every issue. He mentioned that even in the Rajya Sabha elections, the independents were asked to vote for the Congress candidate but chose to support BJP’s Harsh Mahajan instead, leading to Congress losing despite having a majority.
Thakur further accused the Congress government of harassing the independent MLAs through targeting their businesses and families, forcing them to resign and join BJP to escape the Chief Minister’s coercion. He expressed gratitude to the people of Himachal Pradesh for giving BJP a lead in 61 out of 68 assembly seats, stating that the Congress had been rejected by the state.
He accused the Congress government of corruption and hindering development, especially in the industrial sector, where businesses are reportedly being harassed under government protection. Thakur recalled the development work undertaken by the BJP government in Nalagarh, including the Global Investor Meet and the establishment of the Medical Device Park, which were halted by the Congress government. He claimed that a mafia group, allegedly backed by the Congress, is exploiting industries, forcing them to leave Himachal Pradesh.
Thakur concluded by stating that the Congress party has lost its moral authority in Himachal Pradesh, and BJP will achieve a significant victory in the upcoming three by-elections. He asserted that while Congress holds power technically, it lacks moral legitimacy, and BJP’s victory will consign the Congress government to history.
