Raises Concerns Over Panchayat Poll Delay
Shimla, Feb 03, 2026: Jai Ram Thakur, former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, said the Centre has extended strong financial support for railway expansion in Himachal Pradesh with a budget allocation of ₹2,911 crore, but alleged that the state government is creating hurdles in project implementation. Speaking in Shimla, Thakur said the rising railway budget reflects the Centre’s commitment to improving connectivity, but delays by the state are impacting development and increasing project costs.
He also questioned the seriousness of the government regarding Panchayat elections, stating that despite court directions, voter lists have not been published in most districts, indicating deliberate delay.
Thakur praised Narendra Modi for diplomatic success after the United States reduced tariffs on Indian products, calling it a major boost for exports, farmers, MSMEs, startups, and employment.
Expressing grief over a Himachal Road Transport Corporation bus accident in Uttarakhand, he urged both state governments to ensure proper medical care and assistance to the victims.
