Jairam Thakur Accuses State Govt of “Crossing All Limits” in By-Election

1 min read

Dharamshala, October 31:

Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur launched a sharp attack on the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led government, alleging misuse of power and widespread irregularities during the Dehra by-election. Addressing a press conference in Dharamshala, he claimed the government has spent three years prioritizing “friends and family” instead of public welfare.

Thakur accused the Chief Minister of “breaking democratic norms” and engaging in “vote theft” to ensure electoral gains. He also alleged that major development projects— including the Central University campus in Dharamshala—have been stalled due to the government’s inefficiency, stating that ₹30 crore required to move the project forward remains unpaid.

He criticized the sale of land belonging to the Palampur Agriculture University and said government decisions reflect “ego-driven governance” resulting in halted institutions, rising debt, and increased taxation.

Thakur also addressed the National Unity Day “Run for Unity” event and paid tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, calling him the architect of national integration. He urged youth to be active partners in nation-building.
