Jairam Slams Sukhu Government for Scrapping Water Subsidy and Ignoring Employment Promises

1 min read

Shimla, September 22: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, strongly criticized the Sukhu-led Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, accusing it of continually burdening the public with increasing costs and unfulfilled promises. Thakur remarked that after the removal of the electricity subsidy, the government has now eliminated free drinking water schemes, further raising water charges in urban areas.

Jairam Thakur questioned whether the Chief Minister plans to continue delivering one blow after another to the people of the state throughout his tenure. He termed the recent hike in water prices and the discontinuation of free water supply as a betrayal of the public, particularly after promising free services during the elections. He urged Chief Minister Sukhu to apologize to the people of Himachal Pradesh for these actions.

Thakur also expressed outrage over the Chief Minister’s recent advice to unemployed youth. He called the suggestion that young job seekers should focus on marriage instead of jobs “disgraceful and ridiculous.” Thakur pointed out the Congress party’s previous election promises of providing 5 lakh jobs, stating that the youth of Himachal have the right to demand employment.

In conclusion, Jairam Thakur condemned the Sukhu government for halting previous development projects and closing over 500 schools, accusing the Congress administration of breaking its promises to various sections of society, including youth, women, farmers, and senior citizens.
