Jairam Calls Priyanka’s Visit ‘Political Drama in Name of Governance’

1 min read

Shimla, October 13, 2025 — Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur launched a scathing attack on the Congress high command, accusing it of betraying the people of Himachal Pradesh with false promises made during the Assembly elections. Thakur alleged that despite repeated assurances, Congress leaders have failed to deliver on their so-called guarantees even after three years in power.

He criticized Priyanka Gandhi’s visit to Shimla, saying she used a government event for political rhetoric instead of questioning the state government about unfulfilled promises. He said while the state government blames the Centre for lack of aid, the Union Government has already provided over ₹5,500 crore in disaster relief, along with ₹1,500 crore in additional assistance announced by the Prime Minister.

Thakur accused the state government of misusing the Ridge Ground for political speeches, violating its traditional decorum. He also mocked the Chief Minister’s statement about Priyanka Gandhi building a house in Himachal, asking, “What benefit has the state received from it?”

The former CM claimed that the Sukhu government is running only on “lies and PR gimmicks,” spending crores on publicity rather than on actual welfare schemes. He said even essential aid is being neglected while the government focuses on self-promotion and attacking opposition leaders.
