Sujanpur, Jan 15, 2026: Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, attended a grand Army Day programme organised by Sarv Kalyankari Sanstha in Sujanpur and paid heartfelt tribute to the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers.
Addressing the gathering, Thakur said that such events are not limited to formal speeches and rituals, as the true value lies in the emotions and gratitude people carry for the armed forces. He emphasised that public respect and thankfulness towards soldiers is the real beauty of the ceremony.
Highlighting Himachal Pradesh’s significant contribution to national defence, Thakur said that despite being a small state in terms of population and area, its role in protecting the nation’s borders has always been remarkable. He recalled that India’s first Param Vir Chakra was awarded to Major Somnath Sharma, who hailed from Himachal, and stated that from the Kargil War to the present, every village of the state reflects a strong spirit of patriotism.
Thakur also praised former MLA Rajendra Rana and his son Abhishek Rana for successfully organising the programme continuously for the past 25 years, calling it a symbol of their unwavering commitment to the military community.
During his speech, he strongly criticised those who tried to create hurdles in the noble initiative, saying people who show respect for the Army only for display are harmful to society.
He extended special thanks to Lakshyaraj Singh Mewar, a descendant of Maharana Pratap, for attending the event, and also appreciated the presence of Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla, calling it a sign of honour towards soldiers.
Concluding his address, Thakur reiterated his commitment to the welfare of martyrs’ families and ex-servicemen, stating that the patriotic spirit of Himachal’s youth is the nation’s strongest shield and he will always remain dedicated to the welfare of soldiers.
