1 min read

Una, 18th July 2024** — Leader of the Opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, criticized the state government for halting various public welfare schemes, claiming the government has failed to provide new facilities while discontinuing existing ones. Thakur accused the Sukhu administration of depriving citizens of essential services, from newborns to the elderly.

Thakur highlighted that the government has taken away baby kits for newborns, Shagun for daughters’ marriages, pensions for the needy, and free medical treatment under the HIMCARE scheme. He alleged that major surgeries in large private hospitals under HIMCARE have been stopped, forcing people to wait months in government hospitals. He also accused the government of being insensitive and unresponsive to the needs of the people.

The Opposition Leader pointed out that the previous government had introduced baby kits for newborns, Sahari pensions for the needy, and guaranteed medical treatment of up to Rs. 5 lakh under HIMCARE. Thakur asserted that the current government has either halted these schemes or withheld their budgets, showing a lack of empathy and responsibility towards the citizens.

Thakur further criticized the government for frequently retracting notifications, citing an example where a notification for veterinary pharmacists issued on July 16 was withdrawn the next day. He called on the government to expedite the pending results of the Selection Commission and complete the recruitment processes promptly.
