Shimla, 26 January 2025: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, while interacting with media representatives at his official residence in Shimla, stated that if the BJP were in power in Himachal Pradesh, the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would have been implemented in the state. He congratulated the Uttarakhand government and the central leadership for making Uttarakhand the first state in the country to implement the UCC, calling it a demand of the nation and a commitment of the BJP.
Criticizing the current government, he accused the Chief Minister of misusing the platform of the Himachal Statehood Day celebration for political gains. He claimed the Chief Minister spent his hour-long speech blaming the previous BJP government instead of sharing achievements or future plans.
Jai Ram Thakur also expressed concerns about the government’s decision to legalize hemp cultivation, emphasizing the need for strict measures to prevent its misuse amid rising drug abuse in the state.
Raising alarm over the deteriorating law and order, he pointed out the increasing incidents of crimes like murders and atrocities against women and children, urging the government to take serious action to restore security in the state.
