Jai Ram Thakur Applauds Lok Sabha’s Condemnation of Emergency, Hails Speaker Om Birla
1 min readShimla, June 26 : Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur commended Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla for passing a condemnation resolution on the Emergency, expressing his gratitude in a statement issued from Shimla. Thakur described the Emergency as a dark chapter in India’s democracy, where over 150,000 people were imprisoned to save Indira Gandhi’s government. He criticized the authoritarian actions taken under the guise of internal security, stripping citizens of their right to approach the courts.
Thakur emphasized that the Emergency remains a permanent stain on Congress, highlighting their dictatorial mindset. He also criticized the current Congress government in the state, drawing parallels with the authoritarian practices of the past. Thakur asserted that the condemnation resolution reaffirms that nothing is above the Constitution.
He called on Congress and its allies to acknowledge their role in undermining constitutional values during the Emergency. Thakur urged the leaders of parties aligned with the INDIA alliance to educate the public on the atrocities committed during that period, ensuring future generations understand the severity of those actions.
Furthermore, Thakur accused the current state government of incompetence and failure, stating that it has only added to the people’s woes. He pointed out the government’s inability to advance developmental projects initiated by the previous administration and provide employment. Thakur expressed confidence that the people of Himachal Pradesh are ready to teach the government a lesson in the upcoming by-elections.
