IT Department Officially Renamed as Department of Digital Technologies and Governance (DT&G)

The Information Technology (IT) department in Himachal Pradesh has officially been renamed as the Department of Digital Technologies and Governance (DT&G). Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu launched the department’s new website during the announcement. The renaming reflects the state’s commitment to becoming digitally advanced and modern.

The Chief Minister stated that the change in nomenclature acknowledges the broader scope of emerging technologies in governance. The focus is on aligning the department with the evolving digital landscape and changing requirements. The government aims to use technology for efficient service delivery and believes renaming the department will contribute to achieving this goal.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of adopting digital technologies to ensure fast and universally accessible data connectivity, promoting inclusive development in Himachal Pradesh. The utilization of digital technologies has revolutionized government service delivery, and renaming the department underscores its commitment to using these technologies for improved governance and public services.

The new Department of Digital Technologies and Governance will focus on areas such as digital technologies, digital infrastructure and data governance, digital transformation for inclusive development, and IT investment and industry promotion. These areas include developing and implementing policies for digital technologies, e-Governance, cyber-security, promoting emerging technologies like artificial intelligence, drones, machine learning, and more. The department will also work on the integration and implementation of Geographical Information System (GIS) technology for mapping and data analysis, as well as promoting investments in the Information Technology and Electronic System Design and Manufacturing (ESDM) sector.

Principal Advisor (IT and Innovation) Gokul Butail, Secretary Digital Technologies and Governance, Dr. Abhishek Jain, and Director Mukesh Repaswal were also present during the launch.
