Shimla, Feb 26: A high-voltage controversy erupted in Shimla after personnel from Delhi and Haryana Police, reportedly in plain clothes, arrived at a resort in Chirgaon and took three individuals into custody in connection with an AI Summit protest case. According to Shimla Police, the team was intercepted at multiple locations including Shoghi, ISBT Shimla, and Dharampur after a complaint alleged that unidentified persons had forcibly taken away guests along with electronic equipment. Verification later confirmed that the officials were pursuing suspects in a Delhi-registered case.
To ensure due legal procedure, Shimla Police presented the detained individuals before a local court, conducted medical examinations at Ripon Hospital, and obtained an 18-hour transit remand before allowing the police team to leave for Delhi. Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered at Chirgaon Police Station on the complaint of the resort owner, and investigations are ongoing.
The incident has triggered sharp political reactions, with leaders from both ruling and opposition parties exchanging allegations over protocol violations, federal cooperation, and law-and-order handling.
