Inquiry Ordered into Death of HPPCL GM Vimal Negi

Shimla, March 19 – The Himachal Pradesh government has ordered an in-depth inquiry into the unfortunate death of Shri Vimal Negi, General Manager, Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (HPPCL), amid allegations that he was under pressure at work. The issue was raised in the Vidhan Sabha, media, and through employee representations.

To ensure a fair investigation, the government has taken the following decisions:

  1. Shri Onkar Sharma, ACS (Home/Revenue), will conduct the inquiry, involving family members, employees, and other relevant individuals. He must submit his report within 15 days.
  2. Shri Harikesh Meena (MD, HPPCL) and Shri Desh Raj (Director, Electrical, HPPCL) will not attend their duties during the investigation.
  3. Shri Rakesh Prajapati, IAS (2012), will take charge as MD, HPPCL, and Shri Surinder Kumar, Director, Civil, will hold additional charge as Director, Electrical.
  4. The orders have been issued with the approval of the Chief Secretary and the concurrence of the Department of Personnel.

The police inquiry is already underway, and the government has assured a transparent and impartial investigation.
