Shimla, Jan 14: A special meeting chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap was held to strengthen the district’s rural economy. It was decided that a focused strategy will be prepared for better functioning of around 5,500 Self Help Groups (SHGs) working in the district.
There are 38 SHG clusters, but the district-level federation is not functioning effectively. The administration decided to strengthen the district federation so that all SHGs can benefit.
DC Kashyap said SHGs under NRLM and SRLM are providing livelihood opportunities to women at their doorstep and have played a major role in making thousands of women self-reliant. He added that the administration will promote new innovations and will organise awareness camps and special trainings for SHGs.
He also directed that housing works being constructed under Rural Development schemes must be completed within the next six months. During the meeting, 10 cases under Matr Shakti Bima Yojana were approved. Officials and staff of the Rural Development Department were present.
