Bilaspur, August 5: More than 300 patients with influenza have been reported at the regional hospital in Bilaspur so far. The number of patients is continuously increasing. It is noteworthy that three ophthalmologists are currently providing their services at the regional hospital, while 20 percent of the daily OPD (Outpatient Department) patients are suffering from influenza.
Providing information, Dr. Ishani Gupta, the ophthalmologist at the regional hospital in Bilaspur, said that in the past month, 10 to 12 patients with influenza have been coming in daily, including people of all ages, from children to adults.
Dr. Ishani also mentioned that during the monsoon season, the influenza virus becomes more active, leading to redness and swelling of the eyes. The virus can spread to others when patients touch their eyes with their hands and then touch other people. She advised influenza patients to regularly use the prescribed antibiotic eye drops after a checkup at the nearby hospital.
