2 min readShimla, September 29, Ritanjali Hastir – The enchanting “Indreni 2” art exhibition is currently gracing the historic Gaiety Theatre in Shimla, showcasing the mesmerizing works of seven exceptionally talented young women artists hailing from Himachal Pradesh, India, and Nepal. These gifted artists, all proud graduates of Himachal Pradesh University, have converged to present their diverse range of artwork, boldly delving into the realms of abstraction and realism.
This captivating exhibition is the brainchild of Dr. Bhader Singh, a visionary and the founder of the Mahsu Art Society in Shimla. Dr. Bhader Singh, who also serves as a professor of painting at Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya, Shimla, has orchestrated an event that serves as a celebration of creativity, culture, emotion, nature, and the essence of feminine expression.
The featured artists in “Indreni 2” including Jamuna Gurung (Nepal), Sushma Sharma (Mandi, Himachal Pradesh), Susmita Rai (Nepal), Amisha (Shoghi, Himachal Pradesh), Nirmala (Shimla, Himachal Pradesh), Sapna (Sunni, Himachal Pradesh), Kritika (Deha, Himachal Pradesh; have poured their hearts and souls into their craft, presenting nearly 100 exhibits that encapsulate a wide spectrum of themes and emotions. Among the mesmerizing exhibits, visitors can embark on a journey through nature, animal symbolism, the menstrual cycle, the narratives of old life, and the symbolism of objects left in the corners of existence, reflecting on the disconnect between roots and traditions.
Amid the chaotic tapestry of Shimla, where haphazard constructions often dominate, these artworks stand vibrantly unique in their own nature. The “Leaf Series” is a poignant portrayal of the ever-changing colors and seasons, with each leaf accompanied by a different insect, symbolizing the intricate web of life and the passage of time.
Metaphorically, the artworks eloquently depict the cycle of life, where each individual evolves, forming new associations while leaving some behind. The portraits in the exhibition tell a powerful story, particularly one featuring a young girl alongside an elderly lady. This visual narrative traces the life cycle from girlhood to womanhood, conveying the enduring spirit of happiness and the unwavering smile that persists, regardless of the trials and tribulations life may present.
“Indreni 2” transcends the boundaries of conventional art, taking viewers on a profound journey through culture and creativity. The exhibition invites art enthusiasts and the general public alike to immerse themselves in a world of emotions, symbolism, and the boundless imagination of these emerging artists. In this fusion of artistry and culture, the essence of Shimla and the broader Himalayan region comes alive on canvas, reminding us of the profound and timeless connections between art and life.
