Inauguration of 72nd Wildlife Week 2023 Emphasizes Conservation and Awareness
2 min readShimla: Rajiv Kumar, Chief Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Head of the Forest Department, inaugurated the 72nd Wildlife Week 2023 with the theme “Wildlife and Us” in a grand ceremony.
The event began with a warm welcome by Anil Thakur, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests in the Wildlife Division, who greeted the Chief Guest and participants from various schools and colleges. He highlighted that Wildlife Week in the state is celebrated from October 2nd to 8th and includes essay writing, quiz competitions, painting competitions, slogan writing, photography contests, and other activities. The theme for all these competitions is “Development and Wildlife Path.”
Later, the RiseR group presented a cultural program based on the theme of Wildlife Week 2023, which featured group songs and a short play.
Chief Guest Rajiv Kumar emphasized the importance of collective efforts to protect wildlife and forests. He urged everyone to become more aware and engaged in the conservation of wildlife, emphasizing that the primary objective of Wildlife Week is to raise awareness among the masses and instill a sense of responsibility towards wildlife. He encouraged all present to stay informed and committed to wildlife conservation throughout the year, not just during this week.
The program concluded with a cycle rally and the release of birds by student bird trainers.

Ravishankar, Deputy Chief Forest Officer, Wildlife Circle, Shri Ganpat Verma, Forest Range Officer, Shri Hukam Thakur, Forest Range Officer, Shrimati Kartik Chauhan, Assistant Trainer, Shri Rajesh Azad, Assistant Trainer, Shrimati Meena Sankhyan, Assistant Trainer, Shri Amit Sharma, Assistant Trainer, and other department officials and employees.
The Wildlife Week 2023 aims to promote awareness and conservation of wildlife, fostering a sense of responsibility towards protecting our natural heritage.
