IGMC Organizes Obesity Outreach Program to Address Rising Concerns

Shimla, December 7– The General Surgery Department of IGMC Shimla, in collaboration with the Obesity Surgery Society of India, organized an Obesity Outreach Program at Atal Auditorium. Dr. Randeep Wadhawan, Dr. Vivek Bindal, and Dr. Puneet Mahajan addressed the media, highlighting the alarming rise of obesity. Dr. Wadhawan stated that 5% of India’s population, around 7 crore people, are obese, with Himachal Pradesh’s 14% population affected. The program emphasized lifestyle management, diabetes treatments, and advanced surgical options like endoscopy and robotics. Dr. Bindal urged a focus on healthier lifestyles for children, stressing the dangers of junk food and excessive screen time.
