If MLAs or MPs are eligible for OPS, why not employees: CPI(M)

Shimla, Nov 2 – If Members of the Assembly and Parliament become eligible for Old Pension System just after taking an oath, why couldn’t employees who serve for 40 years, as stated by the CPI(M) candidate from Kasumpti Assembly Constituency Dr Kuldeep Singh Tanwar at a press conference here Wednesday.
Targeting ruling Congress on the issue of employees he said it is due to neo-liberal policies, of Congress governments that deprived Employees of OPSM. He said social security is being gradually withdrawal by the public sector undertakings as successive governments opted for privatization and outsourcing of the Government Service sector.
Dr. Tanwar said in the 80-90s, when they raised the issues of employees and officers, the governments used to listen carefully to the demands of the employees’ unions and also find solutions to them. But today, the governments are not even ready to listen to the employees’ unions. For months, the employees sit on a hunger strike for their demands, but the governments hardly pay attention to consider their demands.
Dr Tanwar said politician, especially of ruling BJP, became ruthless towards Employees as during the last five years Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur challenged Employees to contest elections if they want OPS.
He appealed to the employees’ organizations to unite together to fight the legal battle. He said nothing could be achieved without making unity on the issue of OPS or regular policy for outsourcing, contract, part-time, and scheme workers. He said during his tenure, he would try harder to support the cause of employees and officers.
Dr. Tanwar said that Forestry Commission should continue to probe the government’s decision to change the Khair policy.
The CPI(M) candidate said apart from alcohol, synthetic intoxicants are also gaining momentum in the elections. This is very worrying. He said that liquor or synthetic drugs are being given patronage by Congress candidates in Shimla and Kasumpti.
He said recently a huge catchy of Chitta was seized in Naldehra. Urging the voters to save their children from such an onslaught as it may become a serious challenge to their future. He questioned the ruling BJP for being soft with big drug peddlers.
The government could not stop the menace as little effort is being made to check the drug trafficking in the state and those who are using such drugs in small quantities are being arrested. Speaking on this occasion, the Corporate sector Employees leader said political parties are making big promises to the employees at the time of elections but soon after getting the power they took the opposite stand. Cautioning not come under any allurement on OPS Chitranta said BJP has repeatedly broken the promises made to the corporate sector Employees.
BJP has put a pension scheme for corporate Employees on its manifestos of 2007 and 2017. But no declarations as government documents but the pension scheme remained confined to documents for corporate employees. He said Employees of the public sector waged a legal battle on the pension scheme and won their legal battle in court, however, it was the last Congress government that went to the Supreme Court against this decision.
Govind Chitaranta said no party other than CPI(M) could fight honestly on OPS and other employees’ issues and they should give strength to the left candidate. A clear example of this is MLA Rakesh Singha who raised every issue of this section in the assembly and Employees and the public should send such a strong team of parties to the assembly.
