Mandi, Sept 4: Amid continuous heavy rains and frequent landslides disrupting the Chandigarh–Manali National Highway between Mandi and Kullu, the combined efforts of the district administration and local citizens have set an example of humanity by extending timely relief to stranded commuters.

Relief camps were established at six locations under Balichowki subdivision, including at the Mini Savings Building near Tehsil Office Aut, Thalout, Hanogi (near Tunnel No. 11), and Radha Soami Satsang Bhawan, Nagwain. Stranded travelers were provided free meals, tea, shelter, and basic healthcare. Local NGOs, trade bodies, and social organizations also came forward to support the cause.

According to officials, by Wednesday nearly **7,000 travelers** had been served food at these relief points, while around **650 people** were provided with temporary shelter along the route. The administration ensured three meals a day, besides drinking water and health checkups.

Balichowki SDM Deviram said that despite adverse weather, efforts are underway on a war footing to keep the highway functional. He added that the relief arrangements have been made possible with generous public participation, and thanked local communities for their wholehearted support.
